Practical recall guide
Why a recall can look new when the recall date is older
A recall can appear in today's news or alerts even when its official date is weeks or months old. That is usually because the dates describe different events - not because the recall date changed.

Official date
When the agency or company published the notice
Tracker date
When the recall became available in Baby Recall Tracker
Alert date
When a possible match or update reached your account
Step 1
Official recall date
This is generally the date an agency or company published the recall notice. It identifies the official record and may be earlier than the date you see the recall in an app, email, or news feed.
Step 2
Tracker-added and alert dates
Baby Recall Tracker may add or surface a notice after its official publication date. An alert may arrive later still - for example, after you save a product or when a possible match is found. Added today means newly available in the tracker, not necessarily newly announced by the recall authority.
- Official date: when the source published the notice
- Tracker-added date: when the notice became available in Baby Recall Tracker
- Alert date: when a notification was sent or a possible match was surfaced
Step 3
Purchase date and sale windows
Your purchase date can help when an official notice lists dates when affected products were sold or distributed. It is supporting information, not proof by itself.
- Compare the model or style number
- Check the lot, batch, serial number, or UPC
- Confirm the size, color, seller, and sale window
- Use packaging labels or photos when identifiers are hard to find
Step 4
What to do with an older recall
Do not dismiss a notice simply because its official date is old. If your saved product has a possible match, open the official notice and compare its affected-product details. Follow the source's current instructions for stopping use, repairs, returns, refunds, or health concerns.
- Save products manually, by barcode, or from a packaging photo
- Use Tracking+ to add eligible purchases from connected Gmail or Outlook purchase-related emails
- Review notification settings so possible-match alerts reach you
